The 6th AGM of ONBA was held on 28th of March at the College Language Center. The newly appointed Principal of Nalanda Vidyalaya – Mr. Wasantha Ranjith Jayasundara graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Appointing of new Office Bearers for the year 2010/11, presenting of a special scholarship and a monetary donation to the students of the College, were some of the key events took place at the AGM.
18 years old Lahiru Samadi a brother Nalandian, who is due to sit for the A/L exam this year under Commerce stream, is suffering from a severe eye injury. According to Dr. Vijayapala, eye specialist of Nawaloka Hospital Colombo, an amount of Rs.130 000 is required for the operation of Lahiru. As a kind response for the request made by Samadhi’s father, ONBA donated an amount of Rs.80,000 for this operation.
ONBA’s sincere thank goes to fellow Nalandians Mr. Senarath Bandara of 80′ Group, Mr. Sandun Fernando of 96′ Group, Mr. Sankaja De Silva and Mr. Sampath Wickramage of 98′ Group, who were the main sponsors of this event.
Under the patronage of His Excellency Mr Udayanga Weerathunga – the Sri Lanka Ambassador for the Russian Federation, a scholarship was presented to Mr Kasun Kamaladasa to pursue his higher studies in Medicine in the Russian Federation.
Kasun – a fellow Nalandian who sat for the Advance Level exam in August 2008, left for Russia in October 2009 and is now following his higher studies as an undergraduate at the University in Rostov.
ONBA Scholarship Fund was set up with the sole intension of supporting the education of fellow Nalandians who are in need of financial assistance. Since its inception, we have been receiving generous contributions from the well-wishers and Old Nalandians including those who are living overseas.
Dr. Sandun Fernando – an Old Nalandian presently domiciled in Australia, has recently joined in hands with the ONBA and with his donations, another fellow Nalandian will be patronized for his entire academic year.
The ONBA earnestly invites and encourages you also to show your gratitude towards your ‘alma-mater’ by way of a generous contribution to the Scholarship Fund thereby helping a fellow Nalandian student to pursue his studies.
