Nalanda Guru Pranama Pin Bima

  • Old Nalandians Buddhist Association (ONBA) has launched a unique and noble project of setting up a village recreational retreat (Project called “Nalanda Guru Gammana”) for the benefit of Retired Teachers. This project, the first of its kind in the world, is the brainchild of Venerable Kuppiyawatte Bodhananda Thero, Honorary Chief Adviser of ONBA. It hopes to revive and firmly establish a sense of love and warmth to our dearly beloved teachers who have rendered a great service to the nation.

One main aspiration of this project is to assist retired teachers whose kith and kin stay away from them – especially being abroad. This project will enable to fill the void created in their absence. Further it would pave the way to keep them away from loneliness and isolation during the latter part of their lives.

The amenities include sixteen numbers of houses on twin sharing basis, Community Hall, Health Care Center, Shrine Room, Meditation and many other recreational facility provisions. It is hoped to create a soothing and a calm environment to keep them stable, both mentally and physically and provide them a peaceful yet recreational atmosphere.

The land of two acres has been donated for this purpose by Mrs. Indrani Rodrigo, a retired teacher of Nalanda College. It is located in Bomiriya, Kaduwela; 20 Kilometers away from the city of Colombo. Once established, it would be the ideal gift and the noblest return to the retired teachers extended, mainly from ONBA and assisted by all associations of Nalanda College, its present student community and well wishers.

This is a giant project undertaken by ONBA with the hope of getting assistance from donors both locally and abroad. All donations are exempted from government taxes. Donations are entertained from philanthropists who would assist ONBA to fulfill this noble aspiration and make this dream come true. For donations, please fill this online form or post / handover the downloadable form to the Treasurer, Guru Gammana Project of ONBA. Further information will be coming soon.

Let’s get together and make the “Nalanda Guru Gammana” project a reality.
