The Project

Old Nalandians' Buddhist Association (ONBA) have finalized plans to embark on a meaningful Project by introducing a blessed landscape for veneration of retired teachers worldwide who have devoted their precious lives for the wellbeing of students at Nalanda College – a symbol of education for the revival of Buddhist ideals in Sri Lanka.
To assist us in the realization of this declared objective, a valuable ancestral land of 2 ½ Acres, situated in an idyllic environment, at Ihala Bomiriya, Kaduwela, has been graciously donated by retired teacher Mrs. Indrani Rodrigo Munasinghe, who rendered over 40 years of service to Nalanda College.
For the benefit of retired teachers, 8 Dual Apartments, a Meditation Centre, Meeting Hall, a Chaitya and Bodhi Tree, a Medical Centre and a Sports Complex are planned to be constructed. Each apartment will have a Visiting Room, Kitchen, Washroom and Toilet and it will be provided with appropriate furniture and other household items.
In addition, Residential Visitors’ Rooms with all facilities will be constructed to accommodate visiting relatives locally and from abroad to provide warmth, care and good fellowship for retired teachers.
Venerable Kuppiyawatte Bodhananda Thero, with the assistance of ONBA, has organized this project in such a manner that present students and teachers are encouraged to perform their duties, daily rites and rituals towards the retired teachers on a continuous basis. Thus it sets an example by deviating from the currently established social concept of an elders’ home. Further, it alters the current veneration pattern for elders and teachers only on a specially designated day annually.
The Organizing Committee earnestly solicits contributions and sponsorship from all connected with Nalanda for the successful implementation of this meritorious Project of offering our gratitude to our beloved teachers.
